Sample concentrators: nitrogen blowdown and vacuum centrifugal concentrators

Sample concentrators remove solvent from many samples at once, so that the analyte is left dry or in a small volume ready for analysis. COLO.Science supplies two techniques: nitrogen blowdown concentrators (SACO) and vacuum centrifugal concentrators (LACEVAC). This category helps you choose by solvent, sample volume, number of samples and how sensitive the sample is to heat.

Category structure (navigation hub)
Nitrogen blowdown concentrators (SACO)

A stream of dry nitrogen is directed onto the surface of the heated sample and carries the solvent vapour away. Fast for volatile organic solvents and for volumes from a few millilitres upward; used in residue analysis, food and environmental testing and pharmaceutical QC. Operate in a fume hood.

  • SACO100 — one or two heating blocks, for tubes and vials
  • SACO200 — a separate valve on every needle, so unused positions are closed
  • SACO300 — for 96-well plates
  • SACO400 — viewing slots to follow the liquid level during evaporation
  • SACO1000 — water bath heating instead of a dry block
Vacuum centrifugal concentrators (LACEVAC)

Vacuum lowers the boiling point, so the solvent evaporates at low temperature, while centrifugal force keeps the sample at the bottom of the tube and prevents bumping and foaming. The choice for small volumes, water-containing and high-boiling solvents and heat-sensitive samples such as DNA/RNA, proteins, peptides and extracts.

  • LACEVAC-1C — compact, fixed speed, up to 66 × 1.5 mL, external pump
  • LACEVAC4 — set vacuum 0.1–100 mbar, 13 rotors, 30 programs, external pump
  • LACEVAC6 — built-in oil-free pump, 8 rotors, ready to run from one housing
  • LACEVAC7 — largest capacity, without pump or with built-in pump

Options for the line: cold trap for solvent recovery and pump protection, and an external chemically resistant diaphragm vacuum pump.

Which technique to choose

Nitrogen blowdown when the solvent is volatile, volumes are in millilitres and speed matters. Vacuum centrifugal when samples are small, valuable or heat-sensitive, when the solvent contains water, or when all tubes must finish without loss or cross-contamination.

COLO.Science prepares the complete configuration — instrument, rotor or block, pump and cold trap — according to your solvent, tube format and number of samples.
