LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator — compact, without pump or with vacuum pump, RT+5 °C to 70 °C
The LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator is the compact model of the line: 280 mm wide, 18 kg. It removes solvent from many small samples at once: vacuum lowers the boiling point, gentle heat from RT+5 °C to 70 °C drives the evaporation, and rotation at 1800 rpm keeps the liquid at the bottom of the tube. It is offered in two versions — without a pump, for laboratories that already have one, or with a vacuum pump. The rotor for 66 × 1.5 mL tubes is included. Product code PRO6044.
Vacuum, heat and rotation in a small footprint
Small volumes are easy to lose: under vacuum they bump, splash into the neighbouring tube, or dry onto the wall. In the LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator centrifugal force holds every sample down while it boils, so the dry residue collects at the bottom of its own tube, ready to be dissolved again. Operation takes one button to start and one to stop.

Why vacuum lowers the temperature you need
A liquid boils when its vapour pressure reaches the pressure around it. At a working pressure of 10 mbar water boils at about 7 °C instead of 100 °C, so water and volatile solvents evaporate with little or no heating. The LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator therefore dries samples at temperatures that proteins and nucleic acids tolerate.

The values in the chart are calculated and rounded; the final vacuum of the pump is 5 mbar. Suitability for a specific solvent is confirmed in the quotation. The instrument is not suitable for samples in hydrochloric acid.

How a run works
Rotor and load
Place the rotor on the drive shaft so that it sits on the pin, put the open tubes in symmetrically and close the lid.
Run
Set the temperature — 45 °C suits most samples — and the time, and press start. The LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator starts the rotor first and the pump only when the rotor has reached its speed, so the samples settle before the pressure falls.
End of run
At the end of the time, or when you press stop, the pump switches off, the chamber is vented and the rotor stops.
Chamber, vacuum path and cold trap
Vapour leaves the heated chamber of the LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator towards the external pump. A cold trap at −50 °C between chamber and pump condenses it first; this protects the pump and speeds up drying, and is recommended with organic solvents.

How the cold trap works
Vapour from the chamber enters the trap through the centre tube and meets a wall held at −50 °C, where it freezes. Only gas that does not condense goes on to the pump. The trap therefore protects the pump from solvent, and because vapour is removed all the time, the pressure in the chamber stays low and drying is faster.

Switch the trap on first and start the run when it is cold. When ice has built up on the wall, defrost the trap and drain it.

The chamber is PTFE-coated and every part in contact with the gas is PTFE, so the instrument resists common organic solvents. The thick transparent lid lets you watch the run; an inlet filter keeps dust away from the samples when the chamber is vented.

Selection guide
- Pump. Do you have a vacuum pump, or do you need the version with pump?
- Solvent. Water and common organic solvents; not for hydrochloric acid.
- Tubes. Type and number per run decide the rotor.
- Cold trap. Recommended with organic solvents; it protects the pump.
- Plates, larger tubes or a set vacuum? See the comparison above.
- Open tubes and nitrogen instead? See the SACO nitrogen sample concentrators.
- Place of use. The LACEVAC-1C vacuum centrifugal concentrator needs 350 × 280 mm on a stable, level bench, plus room for the pump, and weighs 18 kg.
