LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator — set vacuum 0.1 to 100 mbar, without pump or with vacuum pump
The LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator is the model of the line for demanding methods: the vacuum is not only switched on, it is set to a value between 0.1 and 100 mbar and held there automatically. It removes solvent from many small samples at once: vacuum lowers the boiling point, heat from RT+5 °C to 100 °C drives the evaporation, and rotation at 800 to 2000 rpm keeps the liquid at the bottom of the tube. It is offered in two versions — without a pump, for laboratories that already have one, or with a vacuum pump. The rotor for 90 × 1.5 mL tubes is included. Product code PRO5861.
Vacuum, heat and rotation — with the vacuum under control
Small volumes are easy to lose: under vacuum they bump, splash into the neighbouring tube, or dry onto the wall. In the LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator centrifugal force holds every sample down while it boils, so the dry residue collects at the bottom of its own tube, ready to be dissolved again. Because the vacuum is set as a number, a method runs the same way every time.

- Plates — drying of two 96-well microplates in one run.
Why vacuum lowers the temperature you need
A liquid boils when its vapour pressure reaches the pressure around it. At a set vacuum of 10 mbar water boils at about 7 °C instead of 100 °C, so water and volatile solvents evaporate with little heating. The LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator holds the value you set, so the same solvent boils at the same temperature in every run.

The values in the chart are calculated and rounded. The vacuum that is reached depends on the pump: 5 mbar with the pump offered here; lower set values need a stronger pump. Suitability for a specific solvent is confirmed in the quotation.

How a run works
Rotor and load
Place the rotor on the drive shaft, put the open tubes in symmetrically and close the lid.
Run
Choose a stored program, or set time, temperature and vacuum — time and temperature in one or two steps — and press start. The LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator starts the rotor first and the pump after it, then holds the vacuum at the set value.
End of run
At the end of the time the pump switches off, the chamber is vented and the rotor stops.
Chamber, vacuum path and cold trap
Vapour leaves the heated chamber of the LACEVAC4 vacuum centrifugal concentrator towards the external pump. A cold trap at −50 °C between chamber and pump condenses it first; this protects the pump and speeds up drying, and is recommended with organic solvents.

How the cold trap works
Vapour from the chamber enters the trap through the centre tube and meets a wall held at −50 °C, where it freezes. Only gas that does not condense goes on to the pump. The trap therefore protects the pump from solvent, and because vapour is removed all the time, the pressure in the chamber stays low and drying is faster.

Switch the trap on first and start the run when it is cold. When ice has built up on the wall, defrost the trap and drain it.

The chamber is stainless steel with a PTFE coating, so the instrument resists common organic solvents, and the magnetic drive needs no shaft seal.
