LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator — built-in pump or external vacuum pump, RT+5 °C to 80 °C
The LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator removes solvent from many small samples at once: vacuum lowers the boiling point, gentle heat from RT+5 °C to 80 °C drives the evaporation, and rotation at 300 to 2000 rpm keeps the liquid at the bottom of the tube. It is offered in two versions — with its built-in pump for water and volatile solvents, or with an external vacuum pump for a deeper vacuum. Product code PRO7219.
Vacuum, heat and rotation in one chamber
Small volumes are easy to lose: under vacuum they bump, splash into the neighbouring tube, or dry onto the wall. In the LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator centrifugal force holds every sample down while it boils, so the dry residue collects at the bottom of its own tube, ready to be dissolved again.

Why vacuum lowers the temperature you need
A liquid boils when its vapour pressure reaches the pressure around it. At about 90 mbar, the vacuum of the built-in pump, water boils at about 45 °C instead of 100 °C, and ethanol, methanol and acetonitrile below 30 °C. The LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator therefore dries samples at temperatures that proteins and nucleic acids tolerate.

Solvents that still boil above 80 °C at this pressure, such as DMSO or DMF, need a deeper vacuum — that is what the version with an external vacuum pump is for. The values in the chart are calculated and rounded.
Two versions, product code and rotors
The LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator is one instrument in two versions. Rotors and the cold trap are chosen for the application and ordered separately. Quote and order with the COLO product code.

How a run works
Rotor and load
Fit the rotor, tighten the hold-down nut, place the tubes symmetrically and close the lid until it locks.
Run
Set temperature, speed and time on the touch screen and start. The LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator starts the rotor first and the pump after a delay, so the samples settle before the pressure falls. Parameters can be changed during the run.
End of run
When the time is over the instrument stops, vents and releases the lid — or holds the vacuum until you vent it yourself.
Chamber, vacuum path and cold trap
Vapour leaves the heated chamber of the LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator towards the pump. A cold trap at −50 °C between chamber and pump condenses it first; this protects the pump and speeds up drying, and is recommended with organic solvents.

How the cold trap works
Vapour from the chamber enters the trap through the centre tube and meets a wall held at −50 °C, where it freezes. Only gas that does not condense goes on to the pump. The trap therefore protects the pump from solvent, and because vapour is removed all the time, the pressure in the chamber stays low and drying is faster.

Switch the trap on first and start the run when it is cold. When ice has built up on the wall, defrost the trap and drain it.

The chamber is stainless steel with a silicone seal, the lid is transparent so the run can be watched, and the magnetic drive needs no shaft seal. Rotor and chamber wall are hot after a run.

Selection guide
- Solvent. Water and volatile solvents run on the built-in pump; high-boiling solvents need the external pump version.
- Tubes. Type and number per run decide the rotor.
- Temperature. Within RT+5 °C to 80 °C and safe for the sample.
- Cold trap. Recommended with organic solvents and with an external pump.
- Open tubes and nitrogen instead? See the SACO nitrogen sample concentrators.
- Place of use. The LACEVAC7 vacuum centrifugal concentrator needs 580 × 360 mm on a stable, level bench and weighs 44 kg.
