SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator — viewing slots, a valve on every needle, 12 tubes
The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator lets you watch the samples while they evaporate: the aluminium dry block is slotted at every position, so the liquid level in each tube stays visible during the run. Nitrogen from stainless steel needles sweeps the vapour off the liquid surface, without oxygen and without a water bath. The block is controlled from RT+5 °C to 160 °C to ≤ ±0.5 °C at 40 °C, and every needle has its own valve. Product code PRO4673.
The liquid level stays in view
Many methods ask for concentration to a set volume, not to dryness — and in a closed block the only way to check is to lift each tube out of the heat. On the SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator a slot at every position shows the liquid in the tube, so you see when a sample reaches the mark and close its valve while the others go on.

Key characteristics
- RT+5 °C to 160 °C, display resolution 0.1 °C.
- Accuracy ≤ ±0.5 °C at 40 °C and ≤ ±1 °C at 120 °C; uniformity ≤ ±0.5 °C.
- Heating from 25 °C to 160 °C in ≤ 15 min.
- Viewing slots — the level in every tube is visible in the block.
- A valve on every needle — each sample has its own gas flow.
- 12 tubes in one block; needles 150 mm long.
- Nitrogen up to 15 L/min at 0.1 MPa.
- 7 interchangeable slotted blocks for Ø 10 mm to Ø 20 mm tubes.
Suitable for
- Concentration to a set end volume — each sample is stopped at its mark.
- Residue analysis — pesticides, mycotoxins and veterinary drugs before GC and LC.
- Concentration of SPE eluates.
- Extracts of food, water and soil samples.
- Evaporation to near dryness and solvent exchange.
Why a slotted dry block
The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator evaporates below the boiling point and under inert gas, so heat-sensitive and oxidisable analytes are spared. The aluminium block replaces the water bath: nothing to fill, no water vapour over the samples, and temperatures above 100 °C when the solvent needs them.
The slots keep the tubes in the heat while you check them, and the valve on each needle saves nitrogen on empty positions and keeps finished samples from being blown dry.
Model, product codes and blocks
The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator is supplied without a block; the block is chosen by the tube diameter and ordered separately. Quote and order with the COLO product code.

How a run works
Block and temperature
Fit the block for your tubes and set the temperature. The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator heats the block.
Load and blow
Place the tubes, lower the head until the tips are just above the liquid and close the valves of empty positions. Open the nitrogen, set the flow at each valve so that the surface dimples without splashing, and start the timer.
Watch and end
Follow the level through the slots and close each valve when its sample reaches the mark. At the end close the gas, raise the head and take the tubes out.
Needle head, valves and safe operation
The needle head of the SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator carries 12 stainless steel needles, 150 mm long, each with a valve on top of the head. The head runs on a stand with rack-and-pinion height adjustment and a locking knob.

Use dry, oil-free nitrogen through a pressure regulator at 0.1 MPa. Work in a fume hood — solvent vapour leaves the tubes with the gas. The block is hot during the run; fault detection with alarm and over-temperature protection are built in.
Standard delivery
- SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator.
- Stand with height adjustment.
- Needle head with 12 needles and valves; gas hose.
- Mains cable and operating manual.

Applications and operational value
The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator is used in food safety, environmental, pharmaceutical, forensic and clinical laboratories wherever extracts have to be concentrated to a defined volume before chromatography or mass spectrometry.
It is a nitrogen blow-down concentrator, not a vacuum centrifugal concentrator: it suits organic solvents in open tubes and needs a nitrogen supply and a fume hood, but no vacuum pump.
Selection guide
- Tubes. The outer diameter decides the block; the depth in the block is 50 mm.
- Temperature. The evaporation temperature must lie within RT+5 °C to 160 °C.
- Nitrogen. Cylinder or generator with regulator, 0.1 MPa and up to 15 L/min.
- More tubes? The SACO200 takes 24 tubes and the SACO100 up to 48.
- Plates? The SACO300 dries 96-well plates.
- Place of use. The SACO400 nitrogen sample concentrator needs 260 × 220 mm in a fume hood and is 475 mm high.
