NOVEL2 touch screen Vis spectrophotometer series — 325–1000 nm, automatic wavelength

The NOVEL2 touch screen Vis spectrophotometer series brings automatic wavelength setting and on-board methods to routine visible-range work. Both models cover 325–1000 nm with a 4 nm spectral bandwidth, measure up to 4 A and are operated from a 7″ colour touch screen. NOVEL2 measures at fixed wavelengths, in kinetics and by regression; NOVEL2S also scans the spectrum.

Which UV/Vis spectrophotometer?

Vis — teaching and routine

Single and split beam — routine Vis and UV/Vis

Double beam, variable bandwidth and PMT

Automatic wavelength and methods on the instrument

With a manual instrument every wavelength change is a turn of the knob and a new blank. A touch screen Vis spectrophotometer with automatic wavelength setting keeps the method on the instrument: wavelength, standards, regression and kinetics are set once and repeated with the same accuracy (±1 nm). NOVEL2 is the step between the basic MAVRICA-V series and the NOVEL3S with 2 nm bandwidth and 8-cell changer.

Key characteristics

  • Split beam optics with Czerny-Turner monochromator, holographic grating 1200 lines/mm, 160 mm focal length and silicon photocell detector.
  • Automatic wavelength setting from the touch screen — accuracy ±1 nm, repeatability ≤0.5 nm.
  • Tungsten-halogen lamp 12 V / 20 W with lifetime protection; automatic 0 A / 100 %T and T/A changeover.
  • Methods on the instrument: T, A and concentration, concentration factor, linear regression, kinetics (time scan), timed printing.
  • 7″ colour touch screen; measured data, regression equations and calibration are kept after switching off.
  • USB port for PC connection; PC software and built-in thermal printer available as options.

Suitable for

  • Medical and clinical laboratories with photometric tests
  • Water, wastewater and environmental testing
  • Biochemistry and enzyme kinetics in the visible range
  • Food, beverage and agricultural laboratories
  • Quality control, teaching and research laboratories

Models in the series

Both models have the same optics, photometry and touch screen; NOVEL2S adds wavelength scanning.

Why a touch screen Vis spectrophotometer with automatic wavelength

Automatic wavelength setting removes the most common error of basic instruments — a wrongly set knob — and makes multi-step methods practical. The NOVEL2 touch screen Vis spectrophotometer stores regression curves and calibration after switching off, so a method prepared once is ready the next day. With NOVEL2S the absorption maximum of a new colour reaction is found with a scan instead of point-by-point measurement.

For a basic manual instrument with software included choose the MAVRICA-V series; for 2 nm bandwidth and an automatic 8-cell changer choose NOVEL3S.
