MAVRICA-UV basic UV-Vis spectrophotometer — 200–1000 nm, spectral bandwidth 4 nm
The MAVRICA-UV basic UV-Vis spectrophotometer measures absorbance, transmittance and concentration from 200 to 1000 nm. Deuterium and tungsten-halogen lamps, split-beam optics with a Czerny-Turner monochromator and a 1200 lines/mm grating give stable readings with a 4 nm spectral bandwidth. The wavelength is set with a knob, zero and 100 %T are adjusted automatically, and results appear on a backlit LCD or go to a PC over RS232 with the included software.
Which UV/Vis spectrophotometer?
Vis — teaching and routine
Single and split beam — routine Vis and UV/Vis
Double beam, variable bandwidth and PMT
A simple instrument for UV and visible single-wavelength methods
Many laboratory methods need one wavelength, a reliable absorbance reading and a concentration result — not spectral scans. The MAVRICA-UV is built for exactly that: it covers the UV range from 200 nm with a deuterium lamp and the visible range up to 1000 nm with a tungsten-halogen lamp, and a reference beam compensates source fluctuations. Operation stays simple — knob, keypad and LCD — which makes the basic UV-Vis spectrophotometer a good fit for teaching laboratories and routine work.

Why a basic UV-Vis spectrophotometer
A basic UV-Vis spectrophotometer does one job well: it sets a wavelength, reads the blank and gives the absorbance or concentration of the sample. Without scanning, touch screen and method memory there is less to learn and less to go wrong — students and new staff work with it after a short introduction. The MAVRICA-UV adds the UV range to this simplicity, so UV methods do not need a more expensive instrument.
For the visible range only choose the MAVRICA-V series; for spectral scans, kinetics and 2 nm bandwidth choose the NOVEL4S or, for series of samples with an automatic 8-cell holder, the NOVEL-100S.
Cuvettes and cell holders
The MAVRICA-UV measures 10 mm cuvettes in a single cell holder; quartz cuvettes are used for the UV range, glass cuvettes for the visible range. 2 quartz and 4 glass cuvettes are included. The large sample compartment takes cuvettes from 5 to 50 mm path length with optional holders.

Operation and data

The wavelength of the MAVRICA-UV is set with the knob on the top panel; the keypad switches between transmittance, absorbance and concentration and starts the automatic 0 A and 100 %T adjustment. The concentration is read directly or calculated with a concentration factor.
Results are shown on the backlit LCD. Over RS232 the instrument connects to a PC, and the included software records and processes the data; a thermal printer is available as an option. Both lamps can be replaced by the user.
