NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer — 190–1100 nm, selectable bandwidth 0.5–5 nm
The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer is a proportional double-beam scanning instrument for quality control, pharmaceutical and clinical laboratories and research. A Czerny-Turner monochromator with a 1600 lines/mm grating gives five selectable spectral bandwidths — 0.5, 1, 2, 4 and 5 nm — with stray light of ≤0.01 %T at 360 nm. Photometric, quantitative, scanning, kinetics and DNA/protein methods run on the 10.1″ touch screen. Product code PRO3159.
One double-beam instrument for narrow-band resolution work and routine UV/Vis measurement
In a proportional double-beam system the light is split between the sample and a reference path, so lamp drift and electronic fluctuation are compensated as the measurement runs. The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer combines this with a selectable slit: 0.5 or 1 nm when fine spectral structure or a resolution check matters, 2 nm for routine methods, and 4 or 5 nm when the sample lets little light through.

Why a variable-bandwidth double beam spectrophotometer
Most UV/Vis methods are written for a 1 or 2 nm bandwidth, but not all of them. Pharmacopoeia-type resolution checks and samples with sharp absorption bands need a narrower slit; strongly absorbing or scattering samples need a wider one to keep enough light on the detector. A fixed-bandwidth instrument covers one of these cases. The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer covers all of them with one optical bench, and the double-beam layout keeps the baseline stable while the slit changes.
The 1600 lines/mm grating and the 200 mm Czerny-Turner monochromator are what keep stray light at ≤0.01 %T. That figure decides how far the absorbance scale stays linear, so high-absorbance samples are read with less dilution.

Operating functions
Measurement and methods
The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer measures in T, A, C and E and runs photometric, quantitative, spectral scanning, kinetics and DNA/protein methods directly on the touch screen. Multi-wavelength determination uses one to three wavelengths per sample.
Spectra and evaluation
Scans run at fast, medium or slow speed in 1 nm increments. Calibration curves are fitted to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd order, and derivative spectra are calculated up to the 4th order. Spectra and analysis data can be printed.
Control, data and wireless options
The 10.1″ touch screen shows the curve, the parameters and the imported data, with a help menu and shortcuts to the main settings. Data leave the instrument over USB or RS232. As options, the deuterium lamp can be switched on and off from an Android device to extend its life, and an additional 10.1″ tablet gives wireless control, storage of large data sets and wireless data transfer.
Build, power supply and safe operation
The deuterium (D2) and tungsten-halogen lamps are pre-aligned and switch over automatically; the instrument searches for the best lamp position itself, so a lamp change does not need optical adjustment. After a 2 h warm-up the baseline drift is 0.0003 A/h at 250 and 500 nm.
The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer runs on AC 220 V ±22 V, 50 Hz ±1 Hz, 200 W, and must be connected to a grounded outlet. It measures 590 × 475 × 250 mm; the shipping carton is 740 × 630 × 450 mm with a gross weight of 35 kg.

Applications and operational value
The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer is used wherever one instrument has to serve several kinds of UV/Vis work:
- Quality control — absorbance and transmittance checks, concentration by calibration curve, routine verification.
- Pharmaceutical and health laboratories — drug inspection, resolution checks at 0.5–1 nm, documented results.
- Biochemistry and research — scanning, kinetics, DNA/protein, multi-wavelength and derivative methods.
- Environmental and industrial laboratories — environmental monitoring, commodity inspection, petrochemical analysis.
The value is in the combination: narrow bandwidth for method development, wide bandwidth for difficult samples, and a double-beam baseline that holds over long kinetic runs and scanning series.
Selection guide
- Is a fixed bandwidth enough? For routine methods at 1 or 2 nm, the LEGEND series covers single- and double-beam work at a lower cost.
- Variable bandwidth with the lowest stray light? The NOVEL-900 UV/Vis double beam spectrophotometer, with ≤0.01 %T and a 1600 lines/mm grating.
- No warm-up time? Xenon-lamp instruments start measuring immediately — see the XENON models.
- Many samples in sequence? Add the automatic 8-cell holder or the Peltier / sipper system with flow cell.
- PC evaluation and reports? Add the professional PC spectroscopy software.
