NOVEL4S UV/Vis scanning spectrophotometer — 190–1100 nm, spectral bandwidth 2 nm
The NOVEL4S UV/Vis scanning spectrophotometer is a single-beam instrument for qualitative and quantitative analysis across the ultraviolet and visible range. An ARM processing core with automatic wavelength setting, a 1200 lines/mm grating with 2 nm spectral bandwidth and deuterium plus tungsten-halogen lamps cover 190–1100 nm. Photometric, quantitative, scanning, kinetics and DNA/protein methods run directly on the 7″ colour touch screen.
Which UV/Vis spectrophotometer?
Single beam — routine UV/Vis
Double beam, variable bandwidth and xenon
Full UV/Vis range for routine and method work
Most routine UV/Vis methods — nucleic acid and protein checks at 260/280 nm, nitrate and phosphate in water, colour reactions in the visible range — are written for a bandwidth of 2 nm or less. The NOVEL4S UV/Vis scanning spectrophotometer, a 2 nm bandwidth UV/Vis spectrophotometer, meets that with single-beam optics that stay simple to operate, and adds full spectral scanning so an unknown sample can be checked before a quantitative method is set up.

Why a 2 nm single beam scanning spectrophotometer
A narrower slit separates neighbouring absorption bands better, a wider slit lets more light through. At 2 nm the NOVEL4S UV/Vis scanning spectrophotometer sits where most pharmacopoeia-style and standard methods expect it, so results can be compared with published methods without correction. Single beam scanning spectrophotometer optics keep the instrument compact and affordable; automatic zero, power-off memory of calibration curves and automatic light door protection of the detector keep daily work quick and repeatable.
When the method needs a selectable bandwidth, very long measurement sequences or no lamp warm-up, compare the double-beam and xenon models in the menu above.
Cell holders and sample handling
The NOVEL4S UV/Vis scanning spectrophotometer is delivered with a manual 4-position holder for 10 mm cuvettes. The sample compartment accepts holders from micro cells up to 100 mm path length, film holders, an integrating sphere and a Peltier / sipper system, so the same instrument can follow the samples as the work changes.

Operation and data

The NOVEL4S is a 7 inch touch screen UV/Vis spectrophotometer: wavelength, method and units are set on the screen; spectra, calibration curves and kinetic plots are shown while the measurement runs. Concentration is read directly from a factor or from a regression curve with up to 10 standards.
Test data, spectra, regression equations and instrument correction parameters are kept after power-off. Results are exported via USB; the built-in thermal printer and the COLO spectrum PC software are available as options for reports and further data processing.
