XENON xenon lamp UV/Vis spectrophotometer — double beam, 190–1100 nm
The XENON xenon lamp UV/Vis spectrophotometer combines double beam optics with a Hamamatsu xenon flash lamp. The lamp needs no warm-up, so the instrument measures as soon as it is switched on, and one source covers 190–1100 nm. Two models are available — XENON-200 with a spectral bandwidth of 2 nm and XENON-250 with 1 nm — both with scanning up to 3000 nm/min and a 10.1″ touch screen.
Which UV/Vis spectrophotometer?
Advanced — double beam, variable bandwidth, PMT, xenon
Double beam optics with a xenon flash lamp
Deuterium and tungsten lamps burn continuously and need time to stabilise before the first reading. A xenon lamp UV/Vis spectrophotometer works differently: the flash lamp is fired only during the measurement and reaches full intensity at once. In XENON the reference beam compensates pulse-to-pulse variations, so the baseline stays stable to ±0.0003 A per hour, with stray light ≤0.03 %T at 220 and 360 nm and noise of 0.0005 A at 500 nm.

Key characteristics
- Double beam UV/Vis spectrophotometer, grating 1200 lines/mm, wavelength range 190–1100 nm
- Hamamatsu xenon flash lamp — no warm-up; according to the manufacturer the lamp lasts at least 3 years
- Two bandwidth versions: XENON-200 2 nm (baseline ±0.002 A) · XENON-250 1 nm (baseline ±0.001 A)
- Wavelength accuracy ±0.3 nm, repeatability ≤0.1 nm; stray light ≤0.03 %T; stability ±0.0003 A/h
- Photometric accuracy ±0.002 A (0–0.5 A); photometric range −0.3 to 3 A; noise 0.0005 A at 500 nm
- Scanning up to 3000 nm/min, kinetics, quantitation, multi-wavelength and DNA / protein test; 10.1″ touch screen, USB and RS232
Suitable for
- Laboratories with occasional or interrupted measurements that should not wait for a lamp to warm up
- Pharmaceutical and quality control laboratories with UV/Vis methods and spectral scans
- Biochemistry and life sciences: nucleic acids and proteins at 260/280 nm, enzyme kinetics
- Environmental and water laboratories with UV methods such as nitrate
- Teaching and research laboratories that need one instrument for the whole UV and visible range
Why a xenon lamp UV/Vis spectrophotometer
A xenon flash lamp emits short, intense light pulses across the whole UV and visible range. Because it is fired only for the measurement, there is no warm-up period and no change-over between a deuterium and a tungsten lamp — the spectrum from 190 to 1100 nm comes from one source. The lamp works only while the instrument measures, which is why the manufacturer states a lamp life of at least 3 years.
For continuous routine work with deuterium and tungsten lamps choose the LEGEND or NOVEL-900; for the highest sensitivity in the UV choose the LEGEND-PMT with a photomultiplier detector — all in the menu above.
Cell holders and sample handling
The large sample compartment of the XENON xenon lamp UV/Vis spectrophotometer accepts cuvettes with path lengths from 5 to 100 mm. A single 10 mm cell holder and six cuvettes are in standard delivery; automatic 8-cell holder, film holders, integrating sphere, reflection accessory and a Peltier / sipper system are available as options.

Operation and data

Photometry, wavelength scan, quantitation, multi-wavelength measurement, kinetics and the DNA / protein test are started directly from the 10.1″ touch screen. The wavelength is set automatically; the scanning speed is selectable up to 3000 nm/min.
Up to 1024 MB of test data and working curves stay in the instrument; results go to a USB drive, to a PC over USB or RS232. PC software is in standard delivery; 21 CFR compliant software and a built-in printer are options.
