ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator — one, two or four blocks, up to 160 °C, colour display, 99 programs
The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator is a high-temperature dry bath made in three sizes: ALEMADR-SB1 for one aluminium block, SB2 for two and SB4 for four. SB1 and SB2 are controlled from RT+5 °C to 160 °C, to ≤ ±0.1 °C at 37 °C; SB4 from RT+5 °C to 130 °C. A colour LCD shows temperature and countdown, and the controller stores 99 programs with up to five temperature points. Eighteen block formats take test tubes of 6 mm to 40 mm diameter, 0.2 ml to 2.0 ml microtubes and 96-well plates. Product codes PRO7176, PRO7177 and PRO7178.
Three sizes, one controller — dry heat for tubes, microtubes and plates up to 160 °C
A dry bath holds tubes at a set temperature through metal contact, without water. The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator does this well above the boiling point: 160 °C on the one- and two-block models, 130 °C on the four-block model. All three share the same colour display, the same programs and the same block range, so the choice comes down to the number of blocks and the top temperature.

Why a high-temperature dry block incubator with programs
Most dry baths stop at 100 °C or 110 °C and hold one temperature. The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator goes to 160 °C and runs a program: up to five temperature points, each with its own time, repeated up to 99 times, with the heating rate chosen as 1, 3 or 5 °C/min or left automatic. A protocol that used to be followed with a stopwatch is stored once and recalled from 99 program places.
The control at 37 °C is tight — ≤ ±0.1 °C accuracy and uniformity on SB1 and SB2 — so the same instrument serves ordinary incubation as well as high-temperature steps. The main unit is supplied without blocks; they are chosen with the order.
Models, product codes and blocks
The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator is supplied as a main unit in one of three sizes. Blocks are chosen separately by tube or plate format and are ordered under their own product codes. The two plate blocks are twice the width of a standard block and fit SB2 and SB4 only. Quote and order with the COLO product code.

Operating functions
Temperature and heating rate
The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator is set from 0 °C and controlled from RT+5 °C up to 160 °C on SB1 and SB2 and up to 130 °C on SB4, with 0.1 °C on the display. The heating rate is selected as 1, 3 or 5 °C/min, or automatic for the shortest time. Because the control range starts five degrees above the room, the lowest working temperature depends on where the instrument stands.
Programs, points and cycles
A program holds up to five temperature points, each with a time from one minute to 99 hours 59 minutes, and can repeat up to 99 times. Ninety-nine programs are stored. Three countdown trigger modes decide when the timer starts, and at the end of a run the instrument can hold a constant temperature.
External sensor and automatic functions
One port takes an optional external temperature sensor for measuring in the sample itself. Auto preheating and auto running are built in, and after a power failure the ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator resumes the run when the supply returns.
Build, power supply and safe operation
The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator is a mains-powered benchtop instrument with film heating and PID control: 200 W (SB1), 400 W (SB2) or 500 W (SB4), AC 220 V or AC 110 V at 50/60 Hz, protected by a 250 V 3 A fuse (Ø 5 × 20). Over-temperature protection works in software and in hardware, and a temperature calibration function is built in.

Block surfaces reach up to 160 °C and are marked as hot. An optional magnetic dust-proof lid (PRO7180) covers the blocks on SB1 and SB2. SB1 and SB2 measure 320 × 205 × 110 mm, SB4 385 × 205 × 110 mm. Confirm the mains voltage version and the plug type before the order is placed.

Applications and operational value
The ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator is used for sample incubation, denaturation, inactivation, digestion and reaction steps that need more than 100 °C, as well as for thermostatic incubation of serum and biochemical samples at 37 °C. Programs with several temperature points suit protocols that step through temperatures and repeat them.
Test-tube blocks from 6 mm to 40 mm suit microbiology, clinical chemistry, environmental and teaching laboratories; microtube blocks take 0.2 ml to 2.0 ml tubes, and on SB2 and SB4 the plate blocks take a 0.2 ml PCR plate or a 96-well ELISA plate.
Against a water or oil bath the argument is the usual one for dry heat — no liquid to change and no contamination path — with the added point that 160 °C is reached without oil.
Selection guide
- Number of blocks. SB1 takes one block, SB2 two and SB4 four. Count the positions per run before choosing the ALEMADR-SB dry block incubator size.
- Top temperature. SB1 and SB2 reach 160 °C; SB4 reaches 130 °C.
- Plates. The 96-well plate blocks are twice the width of a standard block and fit SB2 and SB4, not SB1.
- Dust-proof lid. The optional magnetic lid is made for SB1 and SB2.
- Lowest working temperature. Control starts at RT+5 °C. If the protocol holds below room temperature, choose the ALEMADR-MC with heating and cooling.
- Up to 110 °C is enough? For four blocks with four separate timers choose the ALEMADR-MO; for a heated lid, the ALEMADR-DB.
- Mains voltage. Confirm AC 220 V or AC 110 V and the plug type for the country of use.
