The ALEMADR-MSC is a thermo shaker incubator with cooling for microtubes, Eppendorf tubes, PCR plates, ELISA plates and centrifuge tubes up to 50 ml. It cools the block to 20 °C below the room and heats it to 100 °C under PID control, to ≤ ±0.3 °C, while shaking from 200 to 1500 rpm on a 3 mm orbit. Cooling, heating and shaking on one bench position
A thermo shaker that only heats sends every cold step back to the ice bucket or the cold room. The ALEMADR-MSC is a thermo shaker incubator with cooling: the same block runs from 20 °C below room temperature up to 100 °C, so a ligation at 14 °C, an incubation at 37 °C and a heat inactivation at 95 °C all happen in one place. Eleven interchangeable blocks cover 96-well PCR and ELISA plates and tubes from 0.5 ml to 50 ml.

What the cooling range actually buys you
Below-ambient work is where a thermo shaker incubator with cooling pays for itself. Ligations held at 14 °C, oocytes at 17 °C, finished reactions at 4 °C — done on a heating-only instrument, each of these means an ice bucket that melts, a cold room somebody has to walk to, or a fridge where nothing is being mixed. The ALEMADR-MSC holds any of them on the bench, with shaking, for as long as the protocol runs.
The automation is the second half of it. Up to five temperature set points and ninety-nine cycles run from one programme, auto resume brings the run back after a power cut, and AUTO-4 °C drops the block to 4 °C when the programme ends. That combination is what separates this thermo shaker incubator with cooling from the heating-only version: not only the cold end of the range, but being able to leave a run alone.

Operating functions
Cooling and heating
The block is set from 0 °C and controlled from 20 °C below the room up to 100 °C, with 0.1 °C on the display and PID regulation holding ≤ ±0.3 °C across the block. Cooling from 100 °C to 25 °C takes ten minutes or less; reaching RT−20 °C from room temperature takes fifteen minutes or less. Heating from 25 °C to 100 °C takes fifteen minutes or less. Because the cold end is defined relative to the room, a warm laboratory raises the lowest temperature you can reach.
Automation and programmes
A programme can hold up to five temperature set points and repeat up to ninety-nine cycles, so a multi-step protocol runs without anyone resetting the instrument between steps. Auto heating brings the block to temperature before the run, auto running starts it, and auto resume picks the run back up after a power interruption. AUTO-4 °C takes the block down to 4 °C when the programme ends, which is what makes an overnight or unattended finish practical.
Shaking, blocks and timing
Speed is adjustable from 200 to 1500 rpm on a 3 mm orbit, and the timer runs from one minute to 99 minutes 59 seconds or continuously. The block is changed by hand — it lifts out of the seat and the next one drops in, with no tools. Blocks for 5 ml and larger tubes carry their own speed limits, listed in the block table of the technical specification.
Build, motor and safe operation
Inside the ALEMADR-MSC, a thermo shaker incubator with cooling, the drive is a brushless DC motor: no brushes to wear, no service interval, no carbon dust near open samples, and quiet enough that the instrument stays on a working bench. The wells are machined to fit the tube wall, so heat and cold reach the sample through contact rather than through air.
Power is 150 W from AC100–240 V at 50/60 Hz, protected by a 250 V 3 A Φ5×20 fuse. The wide input range means this thermo shaker incubator with cooling has no voltage variant to choose at order — the same instrument runs anywhere. It measures 260 × 195 × 150 mm and weighs 7.5 kg without a block.

Applications and operational value
In molecular biology the cold end of the range is what a thermo shaker incubator with cooling gets used for most. Ligations are held at 14 °C, oocytes at 17 °C, and finished reactions at 4 °C until someone collects them. Enzymes and DNA libraries sit at working temperature next to the workstation instead of in a fridge on the other side of the laboratory, and none of it needs an ice bucket that has to be watched.
The warm end of the thermo shaker incubator with cooling covers the usual work: restriction digests, reverse transcription, bead clean-ups and heat inactivation up to 100 °C, all with movement. Because a programme can chain five temperatures and repeat them up to ninety-nine times, a protocol that alternates between a cold hold and a warm step runs end to end without being reset between stages.
The eleven blocks decide what fits: a 96-well PCR plate, a 96-well ELISA plate, or tubes from 0.5 ml to 50 ml. Selection guide
- Do you need below-ambient temperature? If not, the heating-only ALEMADR-MS is the cheaper instrument with a higher top speed. If you do, this is the model.
- Lowest working temperature. The thermo shaker incubator with cooling reaches 20 °C below the room — in a laboratory at 25 °C that is 5 °C, not −20 °C. Check the target against the room.
- Tube or plate format. The block decides what the instrument takes: 96 × 0.2 ml PCR plate, 96-well ELISA plate, 54 × 0.5 ml, 35 × 1.5 ml, 35 × 2.0 ml, a mixed 20 × 1.5 + 15 × 0.5 ml block, 24 × 5 ml, 15 × 10 ml, 12 × 15 ml or 6 × 50 ml.
- Check the block speed, not just the instrument speed. 5 and 10 ml blocks run to 1000 rpm, 15 and 50 ml blocks to 800 rpm, while the instrument itself goes to 1500 rpm.
- Unattended runs. If a protocol finishes outside working hours, AUTO-4 °C and auto resume are the reason to choose a thermo shaker incubator with cooling rather than a heating-only instrument.
