CP2222 Portable Spectrophotometer — d/8, SCI/SCE, UV, five apertures

The CP2222 portable spectrophotometer (COLO product code PRO7951) measures colour and colour difference with d/8 geometry — diffuse illumination in an integrating sphere and 8° viewing, with SCI and SCE in one measurement. Plane-grating optics with a double-row silicon photodiode array, a balanced LED and UV source and five interchangeable apertures give repeatability ΔE*ab 0.018 and inter-instrument agreement ΔE*ab 0.18 in a hand-held instrument.

Overview

Measure the standard once, then every sample shows CIE Lab values, ΔE, pass/fail and the direction of the colour offset. SCI and SCE are measured together, so the influence of gloss is seen in one step. A reference channel follows the light source and keeps the data stable when the environment changes.

Key characteristics

  • d/8 geometry, SCI and SCE in one measurement, Ø40 mm sphere
  • Plane grating and double-row silicon photodiode array, 400–700 nm in 10 nm steps
  • Balanced full-spectrum LED and UV light source
  • Five apertures: Ø8 and Ø4 mm (flat and tip), 1 × 3 mm
  • Repeatability ΔE*ab 0.018, inter-instrument agreement ΔE*ab 0.18
  • Camera positioning, 3.5″ touch screen, USB and Bluetooth 5.0

Suitable for

  • Colour matching and colour transfer between instruments, sites and suppliers
  • Paper, textiles and white plastics with optical brighteners (UV)
  • Paints, coatings, inks, plastics, textiles, cosmetics and food
  • Curved, recessed and narrow surfaces with tip apertures and the 1 × 3 mm aperture

Why this instrument

When colour has to be matched and the same values exchanged between several instruments, sites or suppliers, the agreement between instruments counts as much as the repeatability of one. The CP2222 brings grating optics, 10 nm spectral data, UV for optical brighteners and apertures from Ø8 mm down to 1 × 3 mm — for laboratory colour work with a portable instrument.

Software and data

Colour quality PC software and mobile app

The PC software (free download) stores standards with their tolerances, shows the spectrum and the colour difference, follows trends and exports results for reports. Standards can also be created and measured directly on the instrument.

Data are transferred by USB or Bluetooth 5.0; the mobile app (Android, iOS, HarmonyOS) shows results and standards on the phone.

Standard delivery

  • Instrument with five interchangeable measuring apertures
  • Calibration base with white and black standard (automatic white calibration)
  • PC colour management software (download), USB cable, power adapter, built-in Li-ion battery, user guide
  • Protective cover, wrist strap

Optional: powder test box, micro printer. The delivered configuration for a specific order is the one confirmed in the COLO.Science quotation.

Knowledge base

New to colour measurement? Light sources, metamerism, CIE Lab, ΔE and measuring geometries (45/0 and d/8) are explained on COLO.Science, our knowledge base.

Selection guide

  • Colour matching and data exchange between instruments, 10 nm data, five apertures: CP2222.
  • Routine quality control with d/8, UV and apertures down to 1 × 3 mm: the CP2080.
  • Portable d/8 with a larger choice of models: the CS70 portable series.
  • 45/0 geometry (colour as seen, including gloss): the CS45 portable series.
  • Transmittance, liquids or haze: a benchtop spectrophotometer is needed — see the CS60 series.
