Nutrient Agar – granulated format for dust-free weighing
The granulated Nutrient Agar has the same use as the powder: cultivation of non-fastidious bacteria, subculture, purity checks and maintenance of strains. Granules produce less dust when weighing and dissolve evenly.

How Nutrient Agar works
Peptone and beef extract supply nutrients for a wide range of bacteria, and the medium contains no selective agents. Typical growth of E. coli, S. aureus and B. subtilis is checked on every lot.

Applications and practical notes
General-purpose media are the basic tools of every microbiology laboratory. They grow a wide range of non-fastidious bacteria and are used for revival of cultures, purity checks and the maintenance of reference strains, whose performance is verified according to ISO 11133. Working with Nutrient Agar: Weigh the granules without grinding them and keep the bottle closed between uses, because granules also absorb moisture.
Good practice with dehydrated media: keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place, weigh the powder quickly to avoid moisture uptake, and use fresh distilled or deionised water. Check the pH of each new batch after preparation and before use, and label prepared media with the date. Performance of each lot can be verified with reference strains according to ISO 11133, the standard for the preparation, production, storage and performance testing of culture media.
