Clostridium sporogenes QC Strain – CMCC(B) 64941 reference strain
Clostridium sporogenes CMCC(B) 64941 is a qualitative anaerobic reference strain. It is used for growth-promotion testing of Fluid Thioglycollate Medium and Reinforced Clostridial Medium and for controls of anaerobic incubation.
- Anaerobic reference strain
- For FTM, RCM and anaerobic media
- Lyophilised, single use
How Clostridium sporogenes QC Strain is used
The lyophilised culture is rehydrated with 1 mL of the supplied fluid and grown in an anaerobic medium or on agar under anaerobic conditions for 48–96 hours. Purity is checked before use.
Technical data
| Preparation | Add 1.0 mL of the supplied recovery fluid, vortex and inoculate an anaerobic medium |
| Incubation | 36 ± 1 °C, anaerobic, 48–96 h |
| Storage | As stated on the label; use the rehydrated suspension within 8 hours (2–8 °C) |
Applications and practical notes
Clostridium sporogenes is a reference strain for anaerobic growth in culture media and in the sterility test of the pharmacopoeia, and for media testing according to ISO 11133. Typical applications include:
- Growth-promotion testing of Fluid Thioglycollate Medium
- Pharmacopoeial sterility and microbial limit tests
- Anaerobic media and jar controls
- Method verification
Working with Clostridium sporogenes QC Strain: Incubate the strain anaerobically and subculture it no more than five times from the original vial.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Clostridium methods: Clostridium perfringens in food and feed is counted according to ISO 7937 on Tryptose Sulfite Cycloserine (TSC) Agar under anaerobic conditions, where sulfite reduction gives black colonies, and ISO 14189 describes the membrane filtration method for water. Sulfite-reducing clostridia are counted on iron sulfite agar according to ISO 15213-1. COLO.Science offers media, supplements, rapid tests and QC strains for these methods.
