Tryptic Soy Broth with Polysorbate 80 – broth for samples with preservatives
Tryptic Soy Broth with Polysorbate 80 is a soya-bean casein digest broth with a surfactant. It is used for samples that contain preservatives or oily components, such as creams, ointments and cosmetics, and for rinsing membrane filters.

Polysorbate 80 inactivates parabens and other preservatives and helps to disperse fatty samples, so that micro-organisms can be released and grow. The nutrient base supports aerobic bacteria and fungi.

Pharmacopoeial testing starts with sample preparation: the product is dissolved or suspended in a buffered diluent, and preservatives or antimicrobial residues are neutralised with lecithin and polysorbate so that surviving micro-organisms can grow (Ph.
