The ROMIX70 is a digital blood roller mixer for haematology, blood banking and general laboratory work. Six rollers turn the tube while the deck swings, so whole blood, viscous substances and liquid–solid suspensions are mixed completely without shear. Rolling and swinging on six rollers
A blood roller mixer is chosen when the sample has to stay homogeneous over time and must not be damaged. The ROMIX70 combines two motions in one deck: the six rollers rotate the tube around its own axis while the whole deck swings with a 25 mm amplitude. The sample is turned over completely, without foaming and without the shear a vortex would apply — which is exactly what whole blood requires.

Why a blood roller mixer and not a vortex
Whole blood is the classic case for a blood roller mixer. Vortexing would haemolyse the sample; leaving the tube on the bench lets the cells settle and the clotting cascade begin. Slow, continuous rolling keeps erythrocytes in suspension and the anticoagulant evenly distributed, so the result the analyser reports is the result the patient actually has. The same principle applies wherever a sample has to be held ready rather than mixed once: a laboratory roller mixer keeps the tube in motion for hours at a speed low enough to leave the cells intact.
The ROMIX70 tube roller mixer covers that duty with six rollers and a combined rolling and swinging motion. Where the protocol instead requires mixing at a controlled temperature, the instrument is a thermo shaker; where a single tube must be homogenised immediately, a vortex mixer is faster. Operating functions
Speed and time
Speed and time have their own LED displays and their own buttons, so the operator reads both values at a glance without switching menus. Speed is adjustable from 20 to 99 rpm in single steps. The timer covers 1 minute to 99 hours 59 minutes for a defined incubation, or the instrument runs continuously when a sample has to stay in motion until it is collected.
Forward and reverse motion
The direction of rotation reverses on a programmable interval between 30 seconds and 99 minutes 59 seconds. Reversing prevents a sample from settling into a repeating pattern and improves mixing in viscous media and in long suspensions, where one direction alone would eventually stratify the contents.
Loading the deck
The deck is open, with six rollers 280 mm long. Tubes are laid across the rollers and removed without tools or adapters, which matters in a routine laboratory where the same instrument is loaded dozens of times a day. Tubes and bottles from 8 mm to 200 mm are accepted, up to a total load of 4 kg.
Build, motor and safe operation
Inside the ROMIX70 blood roller mixer the drive is a brushless DC motor: there are no brushes to wear, no scheduled service interval and no carbon dust near open samples. It also runs quietly, which is the practical difference between an instrument that can sit on a working bench and one that has to be moved to a back room.

Applications and operational value
In haematology the ROMIX70 blood roller mixer sits between the phlebotomy tray and the analyser. Tubes that arrive in batches are placed on the deck and stay in motion until they are processed, which removes the two failure modes that a bench does not: sedimentation of the cellular fraction, and clot formation in a tube that waited too long. Because the mixer runs continuously, a queue of samples does not become a queue of re-draws.
In immunology and biochemistry the same slow rotation serves incubation. Antibody–antigen binding, immune precipitation and any reaction that needs contact between a liquid and a suspended solid benefit from continuous turning rather than intermittent shaking. The forward and reverse interval matters here: reversing the direction redistributes a sediment that one-directional rolling would compact against the tube wall.

Selection guide
- Tube format and count. Measure the tube diameter and length and count how many are processed in one run; the 280 mm rollers and the 4 kg limit set the capacity.
- Duration. A defined incubation uses the timer, from 1 minute to 99 h 59 min; a sample queue uses continuous running.
- Direction. Viscous media and settling suspensions justify the programmable forward / reverse interval; plain blood mixing usually does not need it.
- Temperature. If the protocol prescribes a temperature, a roller mixer is the wrong instrument — choose a thermo shaker or shaking incubator instead.
- Speed of mixing. If a single tube must be homogenised in seconds, a vortex mixer does that job; the roller mixer is for sustained, gentle motion.
