IRBACTI Inoculation Loops Sterilizer — flame-free sterilization at 825 °C
The IRBACTI inoculation loops sterilizer sterilizes inoculation loops and needles without an open flame. The loop is inserted into an enclosed heating tube whose central zone reaches 825 °C ± 25 °C, so a loop is sterile in 5–7 seconds. It replaces the alcohol lamp and the Bunsen burner in biosafety cabinets, on clean benches, in anaerobic chambers and in mobile laboratories.
Overview
An open flame on a microbiology bench is a fire risk next to ethanol and plastics, and inside a biosafety cabinet it disturbs the protective airflow. This inoculation loops sterilizer needs only a mains socket: after a 15-minute warm-up it keeps the heating zone at working temperature for the whole session.

Key characteristics
- Central-zone temperature 825 °C ± 25 °C
- Sterilization in 5–7 s per loop
- Opening for loops, needles and holders up to Ø 15 mm
- Heating zone 140 mm long, enclosed in a perforated metal guard
- Warm-up time 15 min, power 150 W
- Compact base 120 × 155 mm, 1.0 kg
Suitable for
- Streaking, plating and culture transfers in microbiology laboratories
- Work in biosafety cabinets and on clean benches
- Loop sterilization inside anaerobic chambers
- Teaching laboratories and mobile or field laboratories
Why a flame-free sterilizer
With a Bunsen burner the loop is heated in the open, culture can spatter, and a gas line or an alcohol lamp has to be kept on the bench. With an electric inoculation loops sterilizer the loop is heated inside an enclosed tube, the temperature is the same every time, and nothing burns in the open — which is why it can stay switched on inside a biosafety cabinet or an anaerobic chamber.
Working with IRBACTI

- Warm-up: switch on 15 minutes before work.
- Sterilize: insert the loop or needle slowly into the opening and hold it for 5–7 s.
- Cool: let the loop cool for a few seconds before touching the culture.
- After work: switch off; the tube and guard stay hot for some time.
The sterilizer is built for one supply voltage — AC 220 V or AC 110 V — stated with the order.

Knowledge base
Aseptic technique, culture transfers and biosafety in the microbiology laboratory are explained on COLO.Science, our knowledge base.
Safety and good laboratory practice
- Keep the sterilizer away from paper, plastics and flammable liquids.
- Do not cover the perforated guard during operation.
- Follow local biosafety rules for cultures and contaminated loops.
- Items with an outer diameter above 15 mm do not fit the opening.
