Cronobacter Detection Plate – ready-to-use chromogenic plate
The Cronobacter Detection Plate is a ready-to-use film plate with a dried chromogenic medium for Cronobacter. It is inoculated with the enriched sample, and Cronobacter forms blue-green colonies after incubation.
- No media preparation
- Blue-green Cronobacter colonies
- Qualitative and MPN use
How Cronobacter Detection Plate works
The sample is pipetted onto the plate and spread by the cover film. The dried medium contains selective agents and a chromogenic substrate, so Cronobacter colonies turn blue-green while other bacteria remain grey-red or colourless.
Typical results
| Result | Appearance |
| Cronobacter | Blue-green colonies |
| Other bacteria | Grey-red or colourless colonies |

Applications and practical notes
Rapid tests shorten the time to result for Cronobacter after enrichment, while positive results are confirmed by the culture method of ISO 22964. Typical applications include:
- Screening of infant formula batches before release
- Environmental monitoring in powder plants
- Laboratories that need results within a working day
- Confirmation of suspect colonies
Working with Cronobacter Detection Plate: Keep opened packs resealed at 2–8 °C and use the plates within four weeks.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Cronobacter method: ISO 22964 is the horizontal method for Cronobacter spp. in infant formula, infant cereals, milk powders and production environments. It combines pre-enrichment in Buffered Peptone Water, selective enrichment at 41.5 °C, plating on a chromogenic agar and biochemical confirmation; the FDA BAM Chapter 29 uses a similar culture and PCR approach. COLO.Science offers media, supplements, rapid tests and identification kits for every step.
