Bacillus cereus · Quantitative QC strain
Bacillus cereus Quantitative QC Strain – high count for productivity tests
The Bacillus cereus Quantitative QC Strain 10^6 contains a high, defined number of B. cereus CMCC 63303 cells. It is used where higher inocula are needed, for example for productivity ratios and method validation.
- Defined count: 0.6–2.0 × 10^7 CFU per vial
- For productivity ratios and validation
- Rehydration fluid included
How Bacillus cereus Quantitative QC Strain is used
After rehydration with 2 mL of fluid, 0.1 mL contains about 0.3–1.0 × 10^6 CFU. Tenfold dilutions in saline give the working inoculum for the test.
Technical data
| Preparation | Add 2 mL rehydration fluid, shake 5 s; 0.1 mL contains about 0.3–1.0 × 10^6 CFU |
| Storage | −18 °C or below; rehydrated suspension 2–8 °C, use within 8 h |
| Shelf life | 18–24 months |
Applications and practical notes
Reference strains of Bacillus are used for growth-promotion and selectivity testing of media according to ISO 11133 and as positive controls in routine methods. Typical applications include:
- Growth-promotion testing of MYP and chromogenic agars
- Positive controls for Bacillus cereus methods
- Method verification and proficiency testing
- Disinfectant and spore tests
Working with Bacillus cereus Quantitative QC Strain: Prepare the dilutions on the day of use and record the count with its confidence interval.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Bacillus cereus method: presumptive Bacillus cereus is counted according to ISO 7932 on Mannitol Egg Yolk Polymyxin (MYP) Agar: typical colonies are pink (mannitol not fermented) and surrounded by a precipitate of hydrolysed lecithin. Selected colonies are confirmed by haemolysis on blood agar. The FDA BAM Chapter 14 adds tests that separate B. cereus from B. thuringiensis by its toxin crystals. COLO.Science offers media, supplements, identification kits and QC strains for the whole procedure.
