PRO6171 is a combination ORP electrode for measuring oxidation-reduction (redox) potential. A platinum measuring element and an Ag/AgCl reference sit in one glass shaft, so one electrode in the sample is enough. It connects to the BNC input of a pH or ion meter and the result is read in mV.
How the ORP electrode is built
The platinum element takes the potential of the sample; the Ag/AgCl reference, refilled with 3 M KCl, gives the stable potential it is compared with. The single ceramic junction connects the reference electrolyte with the sample.

Which meter does the ORP electrode need?
The ORP electrode does not belong to one instrument. It works on any pH meter or ion meter that has a BNC (Q9) electrode input and an mV or ORP measuring mode — benchtop or portable. See the pH meters in the catalogue, or send us the model and we will confirm it.
The working temperature is 5 – 70 °C. A redox reading is not temperature compensated by the meter, so note the sample temperature together with the mV value.
Checking, filling and accessories
- ORP standard 462 mV: pH 4.00 buffer solution with quinhydrone, used to check that the ORP electrode reads correctly.
- 3 M KCl filling solution: for topping up the reference; available as 100 mL, 250 mL or as powder.
- Electrode holder: keeps the glass shaft at a fixed height in the beaker — see the electrode holder.
Rinse the tip with distilled water between samples and keep the reference filled. Solutions and holders are in the accessories section of the electrochemistry catalogue.
Frequently asked questions
Does the ORP electrode fit my pH meter?
Yes, if the meter has a BNC (Q9) input and an mV / ORP mode. Tell us the meter model before ordering and we will check it.
Do I need a separate reference electrode?
No. The reference is built into the same shaft, so nothing else goes into the sample.
Where can I read more about electrodes?
The electrode catalogue gives an overview of pH, ion selective, conductivity and reference electrodes with their connectors. The electrochemistry overview covers the instruments.
