DECX industrial precision balance series — 6 to 30 kg with 0.1 g readability

DECX is a series of five industrial precision balances with the same compact housing, an integrated backlit LCD and a stainless-steel pan of 255 × 190 mm. All models read to 0.1 g — from DECX6 with 6 kg capacity to DECX30 with 30 kg — so you choose only the capacity you need, while operation, accessories and functions stay the same across the series.

0.1 g resolution for kilogram loads

Most precision balances with 0.01 g readability end at about 5 kg; above that they become considerably more expensive. When the sample, container or package weighs several kilograms, 0.1 g is usually the practical resolution — and the DECX series offers it up to 30 kg at a moderate price. The same balances are often called counting scales, because piece counting is one of their most frequent tasks in production and warehouse work.

DECX industrial precision balance with integrated backlit LCD and stainless-steel weighing pan

Key characteristics

  • Five capacities: 6, 10, 15, 20 and 30 kg, all with 0.1 g readability
  • Stainless-steel weighing pan 255 × 190 mm; compact housing 320 × 260 × 110 mm
  • Integrated LCD with white backlight; fast stabilisation, ≤ 2 s
  • Piece counting, percentage weighing and check weighing; full-range tare
  • External calibration with standard weights; overload protection
  • RS232 interface; mains adapter, optional rechargeable battery

Suitable for

  • Production: weighing raw materials, components and finished products
  • Packaging and logistics: counting parts, checking incoming and outgoing goods
  • Quality control: check weighing against upper and lower limits
  • Laboratories: routine weighing of larger samples and containers in chemical, food and technical labs

0.1 g or 0.01 g — which readability do you need?

Readability (d) is the smallest step the display shows. A 0.1 g balance shows 1234.5 g, a 0.01 g balance shows 1234.56 g. The finer step is only useful when the sample is small enough for it: for a few hundred grams of sample, 0.01 g makes sense; for kilograms of material, packages or parts, 0.1 g gives a stable reading and is fully sufficient.

A balance with 0.01 g at 6 kg or more costs several times more than a DECX and is more sensitive to vibration and air movement on a production floor. If your samples are mostly light, choose a 0.01 g precision balance up to 5 kg; if you weigh kilograms, choose a DECX model with reserve capacity.

How the DECX is built

Four details that matter in daily work on the bench, in production and in the warehouse.

Stainless-steel pan 255 × 190 mmEasy to clean; large enough for containers, boxes and bags.
Backlit LCDWhite backlight for reading in poorly lit workplaces; BL key switches the backlight.
Four direct keysBL, MODE, TARE and CAL — weighing mode, tare and calibration without menus.
RS232 interfaceConnection to a printer or PC for weighing records.

DECX models

All models share the housing, pan, display and functions; they differ only in maximum capacity.

Model Capacity Readability Typical use
DECX6 6 kg 0.1 g Small parts, laboratory samples, light packages
DECX10 10 kg 0.1 g Routine weighing, kits and piece counting
DECX15 15 kg 0.1 g Production, packaging and warehouse control
DECX20 20 kg 0.1 g Heavier containers and dispatch checks
DECX30 30 kg 0.1 g Bulk material, large containers and packed goods

Operation and weighing functions

The balance is operated with four keys on the front panel: BL for the backlight, MODE for the weighing mode and units, TARE for taring the container over the full range and CAL for calibration. Piece counting determines the number of identical parts from a reference sample; percentage weighing shows the load relative to a reference mass; check weighing compares the load with set limits.

Calibration is external: after relocation or at the interval set by your procedure, the balance is calibrated with a standard weight of suitable mass and class. Results can be sent via RS232 to a printer or PC.

Using the DECX on a production floor or bench

  • Place the balance on a stable, level surface away from vibrations, draughts and direct sunlight
  • Level the balance and allow it to settle after each relocation
  • Put the load in the middle of the pan; do not exceed the maximum capacity
  • Check the balance regularly with a test weight close to your usual load
  • With the rechargeable battery option the balance can be used where there is no mains socket

Standard delivery and options

  • DECX balance with stainless-steel weighing pan
  • Mains power adapter
  • Operation manual

Options: rechargeable battery, below-balance weighing hook, second (customer-side) display, printer (dot-matrix or thermal) and calibration weights.

Technical specification and knowledge base

Full technical data are in the DECX technical specification (PDF). Weighing practice and balance checks are explained on COLO.Science.

Choosing the right model

  • Add up the heaviest sample, the container and the packaging, and choose the next capacity with some reserve
  • DECX6 or DECX10 for samples up to a few kilograms; DECX15 or DECX20 for production and warehouse work; DECX30 for the heaviest loads
  • Samples mostly below 5 kg and a finer step needed: a 0.01 g precision balance — see the weighing catalogue
  • 1 g is enough: the TECX series has the same housing and capacities at a lower price
