CENSA precision balance series — overview
The series covers everyday laboratory weighing with a single measuring platform: a high-precision load cell, OIML Class II accuracy class, repeatability of ±10 mg and linearity of ±20 mg, with a minimum weighing value of 200 mg and a stabilisation time of no more than 1.5 s. Results are read on a backlit LCD with a 25 × 93 mm reading area and can be sent to a printer or a PC over RS232.
All five models share the same load cell technology, control logic, weighing functions, calibration method and interface. They differ in maximum capacity only — which turns model selection into a straightforward capacity decision instead of a comparison of performance trade-offs.
SELECTION NOTE — CENSA PRECISION BALANCE SERIES
CENSA600 covers 600 g for small samples, teaching laboratories and limited bench space. CENSA1000 and CENSA2000 are the usual choices for general bench weighing. CENSA3000 and CENSA5000 extend the same 0.01 g resolution to heavier vessels and larger sample batches. Because the resolution does not change with capacity, there is no reason to pick a smaller model than the heaviest load actually requires.

One 0.01 g platform across the full capacity range
The CENSA precision balance series is built on one measuring platform shared by all five models, so a laboratory can standardise operator training, calibration procedure, accessories and data handling while still choosing the capacity each bench actually needs. A laboratory that runs a 600 g balance for reagent weighing and a 5000 g balance for bulk sample preparation works with the same keypad, the same tare behaviour, the same calibration routine and the same RS232 output on both instruments.
That consistency matters in practice. When two balances on the same bench behave differently, every procedure has to be written twice and every new operator has to be trained twice. Because the CENSA precision balance series keeps readability at 0.01 g and the accuracy class at OIML Class II regardless of capacity, a written weighing procedure can be applied across the series without revalidation for each capacity. The series uses external calibration throughout, so one documented calibration routine and one control weight class — OIML M1 — cover the whole family.

Operating and weighing functions of the CENSA precision balance series
Full-range tare
The tare function works over the whole capacity, so a heavy container does not reduce the usable weighing range as long as the total load stays within the maximum.
Check weighing
Preset upper and lower limits let the operator sort or confirm portions against a target value without reading the exact mass each time.
Parts counting
A reference sample sets the unit mass and the balance then reports the number of pieces — practical for small components and repeat kit assembly.
Percentage weighing
A reference mass is set to 100 % and further readings are shown as a percentage, which shortens formulation and dilution work.
External calibration
Calibration is performed with a control weight, so the routine can be documented and repeated at whatever interval the laboratory procedure requires.
RS232 data output
Readings can be sent to a thermal printer for a paper record or to a PC with the optional communication software for further processing.
Construction, protection and power supply
- Load cell and pan. A high-precision load cell carries a stainless steel weighing pan that can be wiped down and does not corrode from spilled reagents.
- IP43 protection. The housing is rated IP43, which covers the dust and splash exposure of ordinary laboratory and workshop benches.
- Levelling. Adjustable feet let the balance be levelled on a bench that is not perfectly flat — a condition for reaching the stated repeatability.
- Power supply. Mains operation is AC 110–240 V, 50/60 Hz through a DC 5 V / 2 A adapter, so the same instrument works on any of the usual supply voltages.
- Optional built-in rechargeable battery. An internal accumulator can be fitted at the factory for benches without a nearby socket, for mobile sampling or for sites with unreliable mains.
- Operating conditions. 15–30 °C with a temperature drift below 5 °C/h and 40–80 % relative humidity; avoid draughts, vibration and direct sunlight on the pan.
Standard delivery, calibration weights and options

- Instruction manual
A calibration weight is not included in the standard delivery.
Recommended: OIML M1 control weight
Because the series calibrates externally, a control weight matched to the capacity should be ordered with the balance. Available as sets from 1 mg to 500 g or as single weights; for CENSA600 a 4 × 500 g M1 set is the usual recommendation.
A calibration certificate for the weight, and a separate calibration certificate for the balance, can be supplied on request.
| Thermal printer | Direct printout of weighing results without a PC |
| RS232 cable | Connection of the balance to a printer or PC |
| Communication software | Transfer of readings to a PC for records and further processing |
| Built-in rechargeable battery | Factory-fitted internal accumulator for operation away from a mains outlet |
| OIML M1 weight sets and single weights | External calibration and routine verification, 1 mg–500 g |
| Calibration certificates | Documented traceability for the control weight or for the instrument |

Applications and operational value of the CENSA precision balance series
Routine laboratory weighing
Samples, reagents and standards weighed to 0.01 g with a stabilisation time of 1.5 s keep sample throughput steady during a working day.
Quality control
Check weighing against preset limits supports incoming inspection and portion control without a separate instrument.
Production support
Parts counting and percentage weighing cover kit assembly, formulation and repeat dosing where 0.01 g resolution is sufficient.
Documented records
The RS232 output with a printer or PC software turns individual readings into a record that can be filed with the batch or the analysis.
How to select the right CENSA model
Selection starts from the heaviest load that will ever sit on the pan — the sample together with its container. Add a reasonable margin and choose the model whose maximum capacity covers that total: 600 g, 1000 g, 2000 g, 3000 g or 5000 g. Since readability stays at 0.01 g on all five models, a larger capacity costs nothing in resolution, and a balance that is too small simply cannot be used with a heavy beaker or flask.
Three further questions settle the configuration. Do results have to leave the balance? If yes, add the RS232 cable with a thermal printer for paper records, or the communication software for transfer to a PC. Will the balance be used away from a socket? If yes, specify the built-in rechargeable battery at the time of order, since it is fitted at the factory. Does the laboratory procedure require documented calibration? If yes, order the OIML M1 control weight matched to the capacity, and the calibration certificate for the weight, the instrument, or both.
