Listeria monocytogenes qPCR Detection Kit – real-time PCR with fluorescent probe
The Listeria monocytogenes qPCR Detection Kit detects L. monocytogenes DNA by real-time PCR with a fluorescent probe after enrichment, on standard real-time PCR instruments.
- Real-time PCR with fluorescent probe
- Positive and negative controls included
- 48 tests per box · COLO code PRO7394
How the Listeria monocytogenes qPCR Detection Kit works
After enrichment, crude DNA is released by heating. The ready-to-use reagents contain primers and a probe specific for L. monocytogenes; the cycle threshold (Ct) shows whether the target DNA is present.
Reading the result
| Result | Ct value |
| Positive | Ct ≤ 35 |
| Negative | Ct ≥ 37 |
| Retest | Ct between 35 and 37 |
Positive results are confirmed by the culture method.

Applications and practical notes
The kit is used in laboratories with real-time PCR instruments for rapid screening for L. monocytogenes; positives are confirmed according to ISO 11290-1. Typical applications include:
- ready-to-eat food producers
- dairy and cheese producers
- fish and meat processing
- environmental monitoring programmes
Working with Listeria monocytogenes qPCR Detection Kit: Keep the reagents frozen and protected from light, avoid repeated freezing and thawing, and run the kit controls with each series.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Listeria culture method: the reference method for Listeria monocytogenes in the food chain, ISO 11290-1, uses primary enrichment in Half-Fraser Broth, secondary enrichment in Fraser Broth, plating on a chromogenic agar of the Ottaviani-Agosti type and a second selective agar, and confirmation of typical colonies. The FDA BAM Chapter 10 uses Buffered Listeria Enrichment Broth instead. COLO.Science offers media, supplements, rapid tests, identification kits and QC strains for every step.
