Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate – ready-to-use plate for Enterobacteriaceae as hygiene indicators

The Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate is a ready-to-use dry film plate for Enterobacteriaceae as hygiene indicators. No media preparation, pouring or melting of agar is needed – the sample is applied, incubated and the colonies are counted directly on the plate.

  • Ready to use, no media preparation
  • Results read directly on the plate
  • Pack of 20 plates · COLO code PRO7379

How the Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate works

Glucose fermentation by Enterobacteriaceae produces acid and gas; the indicator forms a yellow zone around red colonies and gas bubbles are trapped under the film.

Reading the plate

Colonies What to count
Red colonies with yellow zone and/or gas count as Enterobacteriaceae

Count plates with a well-countable number of colonies and multiply the result by the dilution factor.

Technical data

Sample preparation 1 : 10 suspension in phosphate buffer or saline, serial dilutions; 1 mL per plate
Incubation 36 ± 1 °C, 18–24 h, face up

Shelf life 18 months

Applications and practical notes

The Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate is used in routine hygiene control and product testing in food, beverage and water laboratories. Typical applications include:

  • raw materials and finished products
  • surface and hygiene monitoring with swabs
  • water and beverages
  • shelf-life studies

Working with Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate: Lift the top film, dispense 1 mL in the centre of the plate and lower the film slowly to avoid air bubbles. Incubate the plates face up and do not stack more than 20 plates.

Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.

About count plates: ready-to-use count plates replace the preparation and pouring of agar in routine counts of aerobic bacteria, coliforms, E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and moulds. The sample or its dilution is applied to the plate, and colonies are counted and calculated per gram or millilitre in the same way as in the classic plate count method, for example ISO 4833-1 for the total count. Where an official reference method is required, check whether the plate method is accepted in your sector. COLO.Science offers count plates together with culture media and QC strains for every step.

Complete sets from one supplier: COLO.Science supplies culture media, supplements, rapid tests, identification kits and QC strains as complete sets for the method you follow. Send us your sample types and standards, and we will prepare an offer with the matching products and documentation.

Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate is supplied by COLO.Science in the pack sizes listed under Ordering information. For larger quantities, regular deliveries or method-specific sets that include Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate, please send us a request. With every delivery of Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate you receive the lot number and expiry date, and on request we send the available documentation for Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate.

Where the Enterobacteriaceae Count Plate fits in the counting procedure

  1. Sample preparation – 1 : 10 initial suspension in sterile diluent
  2. Dilution – ten-fold serial dilutions as needed
  3. Inoculation – 1 mL per plate, spread by the gel
  4. Incubation and counting – count the typical colonies and calculate CFU per g or mL
