Enterococci · Latex agglutination
Streptococcus Group D Latex Kit – rapid confirmation of group D
The Streptococcus Group D Latex Kit confirms Lancefield group D streptococci and enterococci from colonies by latex agglutination, for example after growth on bile esculin media.
- Lancefield group D
- Result within minutes
- 50 tests
How Streptococcus Group D Latex Kit works
The group D antigen is extracted from colonies and mixed with latex particles coated with specific antibodies. Visible agglutination indicates a group D strain.
Typical results
| Result | Read-out |
| Positive | Agglutination with the group D latex |
| Negative | No agglutination |
Applications and practical notes
Rapid tests and latex kits shorten the identification of enterococci and streptococci after culture or enrichment. Typical applications include:
- Confirmation of typical colonies
- Screening of water samples after enrichment
- Clinical and veterinary laboratories
- Laboratories with PCR or LAMP equipment
Working with Streptococcus Group D Latex Kit: Use fresh colonies and always test a negative control in parallel to exclude non-specific clumping.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Enterococcus methods: intestinal enterococci are indicators of faecal contamination of water. ISO 7899-2 counts them by membrane filtration on Slanetz and Bartley Agar, where typical colonies are red, maroon or pink, and confirms them by transferring the membrane to Bile Esculin Azide Agar, where esculin hydrolysis turns the medium black. In food, enterococci are counted on bile esculin azide media. Streptococci are cultivated on blood agar, where the type of haemolysis is read, and grouped by Lancefield antigens. COLO.Science offers media, supplements, rapid tests and identification kits for these methods.
