Modified Lauryl Tryptose Broth with MUG – fluorogenic E. coli broth
Modified Lauryl Tryptose Broth with MUG is a selective lactose broth with the fluorogenic substrate MUG for the detection of E. coli alongside coliforms. Positive tubes are read for gas and for blue fluorescence under long-wave UV light.

How Modified Lauryl Tryptose Broth with MUG works
β-glucuronidase of E. coli cleaves MUG and releases a fluorescent product, visible under UV light at 366 nm. Lactose fermentation with gas shows coliform activity, and lauryl sulfate suppresses Gram-positive flora.
