How the Listeria Latex Kit works
Latex particles coated with antibodies against Listeria antigens are mixed on a slide with material from a suspect colony. Visible agglutination within minutes indicates a positive reaction.

The kit is used in the confirmation step after isolation, complementing the tests in ISO 11290-1. Typical applications include:

Working with Listeria Latex Kit: Use colonies from non-selective agar such as TSYEA where possible, and read the slide within the stated time.
Good practice with rapid tests: store the kit as stated on the label, let the components reach room temperature before use and use each item only once. Record the lot number and the result, and confirm positive results according to the reference method when this is required.
About the Listeria culture method: the reference method for Listeria monocytogenes in the food chain, ISO 11290-1, uses primary enrichment in Half-Fraser Broth, secondary enrichment in Fraser Broth, plating on a chromogenic agar of the Ottaviani-Agosti type and a second selective agar, and confirmation of typical colonies.
